IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is an international non-profit organization, created in 1882, which aims to promote and disseminate knowledge of electrical, electronics, computing, industrial engineering, etc. The IEEE was stablished in 1882 in New York, USA, by leading engineers and Steinmetz, Edison, Maxwell, Ampere and belonged to IEEE people like Marconi, Tesla, Maxwell and all the Nobel Prizes associated with this engineering to the IEEE awarded before its merits. IEEE is financed by memberships, selling magazines, CDs, DVDs, etc to the industry and partly by contributions from members. Each member of the IEEE has many benefits such as discounts on conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, books, sometimes absorbing the organization costs.
The IEEE has about 400,000 members and is organized geographically into 10 regions, Region 9 is Latin America. Normally, each country is a section. Large countries such as Brazil and Mexico have more than 5 sections. Some sections are joined to form a Council. IEEE Chile Section was established in 1962 and is one of the oldest in Latin America. The IEEE Council Cono Sur is formed by Sections Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile. The idea is to cooperate and to integrate members and serve better the community.
Technical part is organized by Chilean Chapters in Control, SMC, Communications, Computer, Education, CIS Computational Intelligence, Power Electronics, Power Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Signal Processing, Robotics.
Section Chile organizes the IEEE Chilecon Conference with Chilean Chapters every two years, and it has an agreement with ACCA, AIE and Colegio de Ingenieros de Chile. IEEE Chilean on Chapter Control and SMC have an agreement with ACCA. Chapter Computer has an agreement with the Chilean Computer Society. Chapter Biomedical Engineering has an agreement with Chilean Society of Biomedical Engineering. Chapters usually bring Chile international guests and organize events.
IEEE objectives are:
- To promote, support, encourage and disseminate research, development and applications of electrical, electronics, computer, industrial, biomedical engineering; for the humanity benefit. This objective is accomplished through conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, publication of magazines each specialty (they are 62) and recognizing those who contribute to this development.
- To support engineering education in universities, creating IEEE student branches, organizing student conferences, scholarships, courses etc.
- Promotes Continuing Education of Engineers to improve their performance as a professional and as a person. This is done through courses in conferences, tutorials, courses, books, CD, DVD, TV and Internet.

La Sección IEEE Chile junto con el Consejo IEEE Cono Sur (Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay y Chile) tiene el agrado de invitarlo a participar como autor de trabajos y/o asistente al Congreso IEEE CHILECON 2015: Congreso Chileno de Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica, Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicaciones.
La Sección IEEE Chile se creó en 1962 y es una de las más antiguas de Latinoamérica. El IEEE es una organización internacional sin fines de lucro que se creó en 1882 en New York, USA, por destacados ingenieros como Steinmetz, Edison, Maxwell, Ampere y han pertenecido al IEEE personas como Marconi, Tesla, Maxwell y todos los Premios Nobel relacionados con esta ingeniería, a quienes el IEEE premió antes por sus méritos.
Los Objetivos del IEEE son:
- Promover, apoyar, incentivar y difundir la investigación, el desarrollo y las aplicaciones de las ingenierías eléctrica, electrónica, informática, industrial, biomédica; para el beneficio de la humanidad. Este objetivo se realiza a través de congresos, seminarios, talleres de trabajo, cursos, publicación de revistas de cada especialidad (son 62) y reconociendo a quienes aportan a ese desarrollo.
- Apoyar la educación de ingeniería en las universidades, creando ramas IEEE de estudiantes, organizando congresos estudiantiles, becas, cursos
etc. - Promueve la Educación Continua de Ingenieros para mejorar su desempeño como profesional y como persona. Esto se efectúa a través de cursos en congresos, cursos tutoriales, libros, cd, dvd, TV e Internet.
IEEE se financia a través de venta revistas, cd, dvd, etc a la industria y otra parte por aporte de los miembros. Cada miembro del IEEE tiene muchos beneficios, como rebajas en congresos, cursos, seminarios, talleres de trabajo, libros, a veces a costos que absorbe la organización.
El IEEE tiene cerca de 400.000 miembros y está organizado geográficamente en 10 regiones, la 9 es Latinoamérica. Normalmente cada país es una sección. Países grandes como Brasil y México tienen hasta 5 secciones. Algunas secciones se unen para formar un Consejo. El Consejo IEEE Cono Sur está formado por las Secciones Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay y Chile. La idea es cooperar y potenciarse para servir mejor a los miembros y a la comunidad. Este Consejo se creó en el 2014 y la idea es hacer un Congreso grande todos los años en una Sección diferente.
